Home Course Advantage in the Ryder Cup

Johnny Belskis, Assistant General Manager

The 2023 Ryder Cup came to an unfortunate end for us Americans early this month, with Europe taking a commanding victory. To me, one of the coolest parts of the Ryder Cup is the fact that it is incredibly hard to win if you are not on your home turf. Just 2 years ago in Wisconsin, the US team looked unbeatable playing in front of their home crowd. Fast forward to this year, and Europe seemed to have already had it won after a few holes.

Over 65% of Ryder Cups have been won by the home team. While the style of golf courses is certainly different in Europe, I believe the crowd is the main factor. It is a beautiful display of the amount of passion that is out there for the game of golf worldwide. Fortunately, the US is back on home turf for the next Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

As for the second biggest golf event on the planet, the Carolina Colours Ryder Cup, the blue team will be on home turf. Not that they need any more of an advantage.
