Rules of Golf Quiz #14
Answer to Rules Quiz #13
Ronald’s tee shot on the 14th hole was pulled left and came to rest on the 17th green. Since he had a pristine lie and a clear line of play to the 14th green, Ronald wanted to play his ball as it lies and not exercise his option to get relief from the wrong green. His opponent, Felix, correctly argued that the Rules of Golf required Ronald to take relief from the wrong green (Rule 13.1f). It also states that “there must be complete relief from all interference by the wrong green”, so Ronald will have to drop 1 club length from nearest point of relief from lie, stance, and intended areas of swing.
Rules Quiz #14
After determining Ronald had to drop and the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole was determine, Ronal dropped within the 1 club length and his ball took an odd bounce and ended up in the greenside sand trap. Ronald was about to pick up his ball and re-drop when Felix stopped him and claimed that since the dropped ball stopped within 2 club length’s from where Ronald dropped and wasn’t closer to the hole, the drop was good, and Ronald should play his next shot from the trap. Is Felix correct?
