HIT STRAIGHTER SHOTS WORKING ON YOUR AIM AND YOUR ALIGNMENT

Do you know the difference between Your Aim and Your Alignment?

I have had many lessons explaining to my students the difference between aiming and alignment.

You aim the face of the golf club, and you align your body.

I see too many people trying to aim their shoulders / their toe line or their body to the target, with no regard to where the club face is aiming.  Does your body make contact with the golf ball, or does the club face make contact with the golf ball??

I give a visual of railroad tracks when explaining the difference.  The MOST important aspect of the golf swing is the FACE of the golf club.  The face of the club NEEDS to be AIMED at your target, while your body is ALIGNED paradelle left of that line.

The face of the club will represent the outside track.  Your toe line, knees, hips and shoulders will be parallel with the outside track.

If you aim your body at the target your face will always be set up Right of your target, for a right-handed player.  Many players do this, and they assume they hit a poor shot because the ball went to the right of where ‘they thought’ they were aimed.  But in reality, it was probably a straight shot to where they were aiming.

Remember, always take care of the face of the club first, the face of the club should be aimed down your target line (the outside track) while you body is aligned parallel to your target line.
